Black Diamond ~ Spokane

Who has live music, no cover, lots of room for you and all your friends? Black Diamond, that’s who. What an amazing layout for maximizing the multiple types of entertainment they offer. Sports Bar, Restaurant, Pool Hall, Private Rooms, and Event Center all in one location at 9614 Sprague Ave in the Spokane Valley.

Saturday February 4th my wife Amy and I entered the completely full parking lot for the Black Diamond. Once we did find a place to park the car we headed inside. Two options presented themselves inside. To the left a was a well-lit Pool Hall and bar with fifteen pool tables, dart boards, foosball, shuffleboard, and video games. Their full bar includes more than thirty different beers on tap. Over to our right we saw a dimly lit dance floor with a cozy seating area and live band on stage. We chose to start our experience on the dance floor.

Mojo was the band playing on stage. The band played a combination of songs that included Classic Rock and country western. Amy and I danced under the amazing little light show emitting from the stage. The sound was great and the atmosphere intimate.

After burning calories for a bit it was time to replace them with a bite to eat. We chose to share a plate of Diamond Nachos and The Black Jack Philly with fries. The food was delicious, and the portions more abundant than I normally see at most bars. The Black Diamond has a good selection of items to choose from on their menu including appetizers, salads, soup, burgers, and sandwiches.

By far my personal favorite beer is Newcastle and The Black Diamond always has it on tap. This was the clear drink of choice to go with our food selection, an icy cold pitcher of Newcastle. It was time to check out the other half of the Black Diamond so Amy and I relocated to the gaming area.

I found the gaming and bar area to be very spacious. Even with almost every pool table occupied Amy and I never felt cramped or crowded. Long tables with bar stools provide plenty of space for large groups of friends to sit eat and drink while waiting for their turn to make a shot. Big screens are also peppered throughout the vast gaming area for enthusiastic sports fans to watch.

The staff was very friendly and seemed genuinely interested in making sure all of their guests were well attended. We played a few games of pool and even a few games of chess before returning to the intimate table for two in front of the band. Now you “Know Before You Go!”

Fast Eddie’s ~ Spokane

“$50 cash? Sweet!” screamed a very excited patron of Fast Eddie’s Bar and Grill. Located in downtown Spokane, Washington at the corner of Division and Spokane Falls Blvd, Fast Eddie’s makes fun and excitement the norm.

Dropping in on your birthday is a must! Fast Eddie’s offers a free spin of their Fortune Wheel providing patrons an opportunity to win big. With a loud blow of a horn and free spin of the birthday wheel you could win $50 cash or maybe $100 of in-house credits!

Friday night about 8pm I pulled into a parking spot across from Fast Eddie’s. My wife Amy and I walked across the busy street and quickly through their front door. Inside we found pool, foosball, video games and strategically placed big screens. Fast Eddie’s is the perfect sports bar for a group of friends or just two. The dining area consists of large tables for six or eight and smaller tables along their front windows.

At the bar we found a list of drink specials both daily and weekly. The fun began when our first drinks arrived, a brew for my lady and a martini for me. A personal favorite of mine is the Apple Martini I almost always order it first when I try a new place.

Fast Eddie’s offers a nice variety of food choices on their menu. You can choose from salads, sandwiches, soup, burgers, pizza and a list of appetizers. Amy ordered their Chicken Bacon Artichoke Swiss Melt and I choose the Hot N’ Spicy Eddie’s Wings appetizer.  The wings were good but the sandwich was amazing. Thankfully my wife is always willing to share.

Just after 9pm Fast Eddie’s had packed the house. All the tables were full in addition to their bar. The birthday horn was blowing, guests were cheering and the fortune wheel was spinning. I decided to be a bit adventurous and making my way to the bar I asked for a drink that would taste delicious and kick my butt. Mitch was tending the bar and quickly shook me up a “Spiced Apple”. Pineapple juice, sour apple, and cinnamon whiskey definitely make for a tasty drink.

Fast Eddie’s has a wonderful, talented and friendly team of employees that are sure to make your experience as amazing as ours was. Additionally you won’t find a cover charge to get in the door and that should make Fast Eddie’s a must when you’re in downtown Spokane. They also offer a power hour Monday-Friday from 3pm – 4pm with $1 drafts and $2 microbrew. Happy hour runs from 4pm-6pm and all day on Sunday. Now you “Know Before You Go!”

Curley’s Hauser Junction ~ Hauser

If you love to Rock out and dance until you drop then Curley’s Hauser Junction is the place for you! My wife and I had a fantastic time on Saturday night! The live Rock n’ Roll music and super friendly staff made for a night we will not soon forget.

Curley’s is located at 26433 West Highway 53 in Hauser, Idaho and they were hosting their annual luau theme weekend. Amy and I were on our way home from a Broadway production in Spokane, when we decided to stop in and check it out.  Wow what a big place. The bar is built on two acres of land, they have a very large outdoor area with a basketball hoop, volleyball court, outdoor stage and frontier museum. They also have a large parking lot and I pleased to find plenty of spaces when we arrived.

When Amy and I entered it was about 11pm. We presented our IDs to security as I noticed a live band was playing on the stage. I asked how much it would be for the cover charge. Imagine how pleasantly surprised I was when told they did not have a cover charge. The inside entertainment area includes pool tables, dart boards, a dance floor, music stage and two very friendly barmaids. If that’s not cool enough for some then certainly the full sized authentic dining railway car, or giant treasure chest fish tank will be.

At the bar I found a list of reasonably priced drink specials. I ordered two Surfing Eskimo’s from the list - a shaken combination of Blue Curacao, Malibu Rum, Midori, lime juice and pineapple. Looking at the menu I saw one of my personal all-time favorites, fish and fries. The Curley’s fish n’ chips basket included four midsized pieces of fish, fries, tartar sauce, lemons and is served with an Alaskan Amber beer.  It was delicious, and reasonably priced for the portions. Definitely a must when you visit.

The band Suckerpunch was on stage leading the festivities and entertaining the patrons. Music enthusiasts continually filled the floor and danced to each song. Amy and I were compelled to dance again and again because of the great song selections played the band. Games were obviously a big part of the luau event and included prizes like a pitcher of jello shots. A hula hoop contest, chicken dance dance-off and best dressed contest all made for great fun and happy patrons.

Curley’s has become one of my favorite places to take my wife on a Friday or Saturday night. The Rock n Roll music, friendly staff, great food, reasonably priced drinks, and dance floor area rockets Curley’s to the top of my list. So now you, “Know before you go!”
